When I developed the Fractional Program in 1999, my goal was and still is to open the world of yachting to everyone.

Having been a yacht owner for many years, it occurred to me that I was the only one actually enjoying the ownership experience. My fellow yacht owners were always complaining about the high operating costs, constant repairs and never ending aggravation of crew. They were spending much more time managing their yachts than they were on their businesses.

By creating my fractional ownership program, I was able to do two things. Bring down the high cost of yacht ownership by dividing the acquisition price and the annual operating expenses among a group of shareholders and alleviating the stresses of the day to day operations by applying my successful managerial expertise.

There would no longer be any reason for yacht enthusiasts to fear the uncertainties of yacht ownership. I felt by applying the same proven standards of management, integrity, and conservative values to yachting I would certainly shift the tide from individual to fractional ownership, which has now become the preferred way of owning a yacht.

After all, by eliminating the idleness of this major asset, reducing the operating costs through proper management as well as removing the headaches of personnel drama I have surely met my initial objectives.

Twelve years have passed and today we are still in the throes of the great recession. In spite of the economic uncertainty the tide has shifted and the shift has brought many new people to fractional yacht ownership as a means of fulfilling their yachting dreams.

The emerging economies of some countries in Europe and Asia have influenced the yachting industry dramatically over the past few years. This new generation wants to enjoy the yachting lifestyle but are smart enough to recognize the pitfalls of sole ownership.

Thus Monocle has enjoyed global expansion during these otherwise difficult economic times. Our sights are now set on new markets whose clients want to enjoy the yacht ownership experience and by applying the same "eye on costs" management without reducing our integrity and values we foresee unlimited expansion for our fractional program.
